Here's the problem: It's a beautiful day in Oslo (summer, preferably), and want to be outdoors in the fresh air and sunshine, maybe have a picnic on the grass, walk and enjoy the views. But you also want some culture, some art, however, not be locked in a museum in a day so glorious. Where go? Vigeland Sculpture Park, part of Frogner Park, located in Oslo, is one of the most popular and visually appealing places to visit in the capital of Norway.
Three miles northwest of downtown Oslo, the park covers 80 hectares and features 212 bronze and granite sculptures by Gustav Berg. Each figure was sculpted personally Vigeland and clay by individual craftsmen were contracted to manufacture the parts in what visitors see today. These works of art live along a 850-meter shaft longitudinally divided into six sections: the main gate, bridge, Children's Playground, the fountain, the monolith and the plateau of the wheel of life.
The front door is made of granite and wrought iron forge and serves as a gateway to the park. It consists of five large doors, two small pedestrian gates and two copper-roofed houses the door, both decorated with vanes. Funded by a bank of Norway, the main gate was built in 1926. Walks are bronze and dresses to contribute to the "Status Humana initiative of the park. One of the most popular statues Park Oslo Sinnataggen, or "The Angry Little Boy." This was the first part of the park is open the public in 1940. While most of the park in Oslo was still under construction, visitors could enjoy these sculptures.
Next you reach the playground, located at the end of the bridge. This is a collection of eight bronze statues, representing all children in the game. In the center, mounted on a granite column, is a representation of a fetus. You can not say that there truth. After attention to the playground is the source, made of bronze and decorated with 60 reliefs individual bronze. It portrays the children and the skeletons in the arms of giant trees, symbolizing the new life emerging from death. Vigeland took from 1906 to 1947 to establish this memorial in Oslo.
Finally, we reach the plateau of the Monolith and the Monolith. The Monolith Plateau is a platform made of the steps of the Monolith housing totem itself. Thirty-six digit groups residing in elevation carrying the "circle of life" message. Eight doors wrought iron forged figures give access to the plateau. They were designed in Oslo between 1933 and 1937 and built soon after Vigeland died in 1943.
The Monolith (Monolitten) is undoubtedly the most popular attraction in the park. As the name suggests, the work is created from a single piece of stone. This massive work began in 1924 when the monument itself Vigeland modeling clay in his studio Frogner. The design process took ten months. Then the model was a plaster cast. In 1927, a block granite weighing several hundred tons, was delivered to Oslo park a stone quarry in Halden, it was erected the following year, protected from the elements of a shed wood. It took 14 years and three stone carvers, from 1929, to transfer the numbers. Monolith towers 46.32 meters high and a total of 121 human figures increasing the sky. This is done to symbolize man's desire to approach the spiritual and the divine. The nude figures welcomed convey a sense of togetherness as all they make their way to salvation.
At the end of the park 850 meters long axis is a sundial, carved in 1930. This is followed by the wheel of life, made between 1933-34. This is essentially a crown that represents four people and a baby floating in harmony. It symbolizes eternity, and suggests the general theme park in Oslo, which is man's journey from the cradle to the grave.
Wonderful and powerful as these works are, not everyone has appreciated the sculptures. In March 2007, was deleted This park in Oslo, when an anonymous person or persons placed black strips above each nipple, crotch, and back in the sculptures in the park. As always, No tastes.
