Is life in the U.S. making it too expensive for you too? We had to leave because of the economy effecting the sale of our house in New Jersey, and the fact we could not afford the monthly cost of living: taxes $ 1100 Gas Electricity $ 450 and $ 280 cost of living increases almost every day.

We love warm weather, good food and friendly people, so we moved to Mexico. For the moment we are in Monterrey, northern Mexico, about 2 1 / 2 hours south McAllen Texas, but in a few months we are moving further south.

A popular destination for Americans and Canadians to retire is San Miguel de Allende. A beautiful old town with a large plaza with restaurants, sidewalk cafes to hang out, and many activities such as photography, painting and cooking classes. The city, which attracted our attention is Tequisquiapan. A small farm town in Queretaro in central Mexico, is only 2 hours from Mexico City, 40 minutes from the city of Queretaro, with everything you need, without traffic, pollution and crime. It is still less frequented by Americans, then San Miguel and Lake Chapala area, but the numbers are growing.

Tequisquiapan is famous for its hot springs, and for being the center of a wine and cheese-producing region. Apart from wine and cheese tasting, visitors can enjoy regional cuisine, concerts, crafts and other events cultural.

What we like best of the smaller cities in Mexico, is the fact that people love life, and shows with festivals of colors, small food stands, people gathered in the plaza with children playing around. The whole landscape is reminiscent of the "good old days in old America '.
